Robert DeLong – Global Concepts

Despite the serious connotations of the title, Global Concepts is a fun track that plays with a mixture of styles and genres for inspiration, all delivered in a rush of homemade peculiarity. DeLong originally started his musical career as a drummer in an indie band and this is closely reflected in this song. The vocal style and lyric composition contain a tangible similarity with alternative rock tracks in places. These vocals are elevated by a sustained underlying synth and then juxtaposed by intermittent bursts of eccentric electronic synths dancing haphazardly to the bristling tribal drum beat. DeLong’s distinctive eclectic spectrum approach - mixed in with a wondrous array of synths - partnered with recognisable vocals, harvest a quirky yet infectiously addictive outcome.
