Justin Luke - Diesel
Diesel is a nice deep track, that does the
tango with a kick drum led bass and tap dances with tribal almost indie electronics.
The drone that invades the song’s soft beginning is ominous, steadily being
held in place. Before this beat peels away, a dramatic drum roll gives the
final push of momentum to take the track over the edge. When it falls, however,
instead of the expected over-dramatic bass and snare-filled drop or sky-high house
explosions, we are met by a calm almost sedate affair.
Second time around
we witness a different transaction. The building baseline snaps for the final
time and goes straight into a grim, morose relapse, drawing on the moody poignancy
of its surroundings.
Diesel smoothly aligns with the temperate
state of mind induced by the winter months, as a hypnotically sinister sense of
purpose seeps through the song. It brings images to mind of a smoky club drawing a
weary breath as the late night DJ brings the night to a gruff and resolute end.
This track fits that dark vibe.
