Fall Out Boy – The
Phoenix
The Phoenix is the triumphant second single from
Fall Out Boy’s return album Save Rock and
Roll following a hiatus in 2009, which saw members of the band working on
other projects. The album title might seem bold but since their return they
have produced two stunningly epic pop-rock singles. The second of these tracks
perfectly embodies the reincarnation of the band as they rise from the ashes, rightfully
taking their place at the forefront of pop-rock music once more.
The single opens
with earnest yet dramatic violins from classic Alles Neu by Peter Fox. However, the main source of rock splendour
comes courtesy of an amalgamation of the incessant rallying vocals, solid
drum beats, deep bass strums and rousing guitar riffs. The fiery determination
powers its way through all 4:05 minutes of the song coursing through its very
frame with empowering and rejuvenating consequences.
Phoenix takes the fresh energy and defiance of top 5 hit My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark and cranks up the drama another level. Unlike many band reunions, which can feel forced or unnatural, the return of Fall Out Boy provides a tutorial in how it’s done, as they effortlessly and unfalteringly slide back into sixth gear. The pieces have once again clicked into place. The stars have re-aligned. Now let the Phoenix rise.
