September 2013 Albums Guide: Part 2
Krewella – Get Wet
Krewella are a trio hailing from Chicago, made up of vocalists Jahan and Yasmine Yousaf and producer Rain Man. We originally heard them through their mainstream breakthrough release, Alive, which still stands as our favourite single of 2013 so far. Alive did not come alone however, it was released with an EP full of fiery and vibrant electronic dance and dubstep songs, which left our speakers completely reeling from the amazing onslaught. Recently though, the trio have turned their attention towards the release of their first full studio album, Get Wet.

The record is
a relatively eclectic sounding beast that wanders between conventional dubstep,
hardstyle and house. Recent single Live
for the Night, 2013 highlight Alive,
remorseful rollercoaster Human,
stadium pleaser Lights & Thunder and
the uplifting Enjoy the Ride, serve
as early favourites.

Chvrches are
one of the most unique groups out there at the moment. Between the sweet vocals
of Lauren Mayberry and the electro production of Ian Cook and Martin
Doherty, the trio have
brought a harmonious magical infusion of electro-pop to the radio waves, which
is unique yet accessible, edgy yet innocent. Album tracks like Lies and Science/Visions maintain the sparkling charm that made us love
singles like Recover, Gun and The Mother We Share.

Sub Focus – Torus
Since
releasing his debut album back in 2009, Focus has been support act for
Pendulum, ushered into the chart three consecutive top 30 hits, produced a top
three single for singer-songwriter Example and launched an eye-popping new live
show. But within this busy schedule he has still found enough time to produce
his second album.
The album
includes singles like the epic Tidal Wave,
speaker defying Falling Down and
glitzy new single Turn It Around. In
fact the singles alone would make this album great value for money, even if the
album tracks weren’t that great. However, the fact that the album tracks
themselves are just as good as the singles elevates the album from a good buy
to a must buy. Features such as MNEK, Culture Shock, TC and Foxes give the
album a powerful sense of variety, resulting in what promises to be one of the
most consistent and well-honed releases of the month, and possibly even the
year. In particular, it seems that Turn
Back Time and Close have a real
sparkle to them. It’s safe to say it looks like we’re in for a real treat on
the 30th September.
Camo & Krooked – Zeitgeist
This duo are the
kind of artists who are able to turn their hand to any sound they like, while still
managing to make sure that any change comes across as totally unforced and
natural. The singles preceding Zeitgeist
show this willingness to adapt, as they reach to the edges of DnB and create
something different to anything else out there. Loving You is Easy and Journey
Through Sound are especially good examples of this open and diverse
approach to music production.
