Midnight Red – Hell Yeah
Despite not
normally reviewing boy bands on this blog, this song is a stand out track from the
frankly uniform set of current boy band songs. The main reason that this song stands
out from the crowd is its light dubstep beats thanks to the production skills
of Red One. The producer has also helped them on previous tunes but this is of particularly
respectable quality.
Don’t be
fooled, the boy band formula is still very much present with heavily
characteristic guitar notes at some points and a video which is somewhere
between JLS and The Wanted, but the rest of the song is refreshingly unique. It
manages to deliver actual energy and does not seem completely based on getting
as many screaming girls as possible. All the members of Midnight Red contribute
to the song the same amount, ensuring that there is no lead singer in the group,
unlike many other popular boy bands.
Red One has done
an impressive job because despite working with countless artists he has still
managed to make beats that sound different to anything else he has produced
before. The lyrics might be worth working on however as “Hell Yeah” and “Party
like we don’t care” are already heavily overused in many songs.
Between the
band and the production, the song contains tangible energy and is definitely America’s
answer to the flood of new British bands. There is still room for improvement in
some areas but overall the song is refreshing and could well be one of the most
creditable songs to come from a boy band in a long time. Hopefully they may be
able to help evolve this type of music in the future.

Oh my gosh yes I can hear those light dubstep you are talking about in some parts! Really interesting track. All I can say with the rest of your thoughts regarding the emergence of boy bands - ONE DIRECTION HAVE TO LEARN FROM THESE GUYS. #oops
ReplyDeletecos even tho 1D worked with Red1 as well they did not do as well in my opinion
ReplyDeleteWell the tracks 1D did with RedOne are actually one of the uniquely-sounding RedOne tracks ever. I mean, it's easy to recognize the RedOne style already with that certain pattern (if u can get what I mean) but in these 1D tracks, they're not that way. Anyway we're not concerned about 1D so let's leave that.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm so enjoying this track by the way with many different styles of sounds I hear from this including a little bit of dubstep as u pointed out. ;) Great review on this track by the way. :)
