Eric Turner vs Avicii

- Dancing in my Head

Eric Turner is most famous for his appearance on the massive smash, Written in the Stars with Tinie Tempah. The American singer has worked with the likes of Tinchy Stryder and Lupe Fiasco and is also a member of rock band, Street Fighting Man. Over the years, Turner has proven that he is an adept singer in many genres such as rock and hip-hop, and now adds house to his repertoire. Avicii, also known as Tom Hangs, is the provider of these house beats for the singer and the resulting unexpected collaboration has resulted in a deep, epic tune.
The lyrics used by Turner are clever, as they are at home in both alternative music and house music. Despite the song not being the singer’s usual style, he has managed to pass the vocals onto the house base and ends up fitting perfectly. There is no mistaking that even though his vocals fit peculiarly well, the song still manages to deliver its own unique vibe.
Avicii’s production does contain some sounds that he has used before but most of it is fresh and highly suitable for the vocals and lyrics of Turner. Both artists bring their different types of epic music to the table. Turner summons an epic chorus, similar to the one he demonstrated in Written in the Stars, and then Avicii backs it up with those epic house melodies which have helped him bring so many songs to life in the past. The vocals during the verse could be slightly stronger, so that they then equal the amazing qualities of the chorus, but are otherwise relatively flawless. The lyrics video is rather effective, and certainly a lot less boring than average because it shows performance footage in the background and that adds an extra dose of energy.
Dancing in my Head is an interesting switch up by the singer after his two other solo songs, Angles and Stars and Stylechanger, which took inspiration from more rock, hip-hop and bass forms of music. It is a spirit raising song that can be played over and over and is especially suitable for this time of year. Avicii and Eric Turner have designed an expertly polished tune in a surprising collaboration. The result might be something of an acquired taste, but is extremely captivating nonetheless.
