Zedd hails
from Germany and is an electronic producer who takes inspiration from house,
dubstep and complextro. Spectrum was originally released in June but now
returns on the remix EP with remixes from the likes of Armin Van Bureen, Monsta
and the mighty Congorock.
Congorock is
a producer who shares a similar sound to Zedd, at least in some of his records,
with the emphasis being placed on throaty house explosions. Any over
similarities are avoided, however, because the main style used in the original
of Spectrum by Zedd is more of the
complextro-electronic nature, while Congorock stays with the house sounds that
he can wield so expertly. The result is slick and well thought out, plotting an
ambush of striving bass and lingering blips.
The remix
capitalizes on pumping, scathing and feisty drops that are the work of
Congorock, while leaving the middle part mainly unaltered from the original. The
fabrication of this clever infusion of the original and Congorock’s remix, help
realise the original’s steady nature, which is built up only to crumble under
the powerful pounds of Congorock’s masterful hand. The stinging punch driven by
whirring sirens and a deep toned bass contrives to embark on a club destroying
rampage.
The task of
creating a remix better than the original is always a difficult mission, even
for experienced veterans of war like Congorock. Instead of doing what many would
do under such circumstances, blending in a much larger and rougher beat to
bully the original into submission, the producer has introduced a collaboration
between the original sounds and his own distinctive, deeply tones bass.
Congorock of
course could be accused of not leaving enough of a mark and only making a
partial translation of the original, but this careful engineering is of creditable
origins and the result is nothing short of club shaking masterpiece.
