Get Lucky by Naughty Boy ft Tanika - The Highlight of Hotel Cabana

This week Naughty Boy released his highly anticipated debut album, Hotel Cabana. Unlike most modern day albums, Hotel Cabana is a concept album recounting a long story across the entire record, joining album tracks and singles together into one cohesive work of art. Get Lucky is one of the last tracks on the album and is exclusive to the deluxe version, which means some people may well end up missing this little gem. That is why we have decided to make it our album highlight.

The song, which is a cover of the global super hit by Daft Punk, already had a high level of soul and lyrical refinement, but the heartfelt performance of Tanika is genuinely astounding. She ever so softly recites the chorus, as soothingly as if it was a lullaby, constantly keeping her pitch and tone in check. During this impressive vocal display of self-discipline, a bed of light hypnotic beats, laid on by Naughty Boy, enact a ghostly dance in the background, while a collection of righteous violins glide serenely above. The meeting of warm vocal and otherworldly production make for a magical and gripping experience.

This interpretation of Get Lucky is a very finely tuned and well balanced creation, possibly even more so than the original. It is soothing without being boring. It is rhythmic without being repetitive. It is eerie without being dark. Naughty Boy & Tanika have well and truly put their own spin on this internationally renowned song, forging a new identity for the song and creating a mystic odyssey of classically inclined grace.
